Nvidia commits $1B to boost US AI research

NVIDIA announced on Thursday that it will allocate $1 billion to expand US capabilities in artificial intelligence or "super intelligence" research across quantum computing, healthcare and energy security over the next five years.

The announcement was made at the "Science: A New Golden Age" event in Washington, DC, where officials, industry leaders and scientists discussed public-private cooperation to advance research. "President Trump's Genesis Mission is launching a new golden age of American discovery," NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said. He added that the investment will put "advanced Super Intelligence in the hands of America's scientists to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, energy and materials."

Super Intelligence or SI, is the term the Trump administration has adopted for AI.

Vance: Microsoft abused visa system

United States Vice President JD Vance announced on Thursday that the Trump administration is suspending Microsoft Corp. from the PERM program, which allows some categories of immigrants to obtain a settled status, alleging that "no company has abused that system more than Microsoft." He claimed that, in the last year, the tech giant cut 6,000 jobs, while hiring 6,300 foreign workers via the H-1B visa and sponsoring nearly 3,000 green cards.

Vance addressed businesses directly, telling them the administration wants them to "thrive" in the US, but also hire American workers. He accused companies using H-1B visas of taking advantage of "what is effectively foreign indentured servants," mistreating them and using them to undercut domestic wages.

South Korea bank hack suspect may be 26-year-old in China: CrowdStrike

The suspect behind recent cyberattacks targeting South Korea’s financial sector may be a 26-year-old based in China’s Guangdong province, U.S. cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike has said.

In a report published on its website on Wednesday, CrowdStrike said it uncovered personal details linked to the suspected attacker while analyzing AI coding-tool sessions and infrastructure associated with a campaign targeting South Korean financial institutions from late September to early October.

CrowdStrike said the attacker used ARTEX, a recently released Chinese-developed open-source penetration testing tool, alongside large language models and assessed with “moderate confidence” that the actor was a Chinese speaker and likely financially motivated.

The firm said one Claude Code session contained a request to create a security researcher resume describing results from the hacking activity.

The prompt included details such as a Telegram account, age, education background and a location in Maoming, Guangdong, the report said.

CrowdStrike said the same Telegram username appeared in other cyber activity, including vulnerability research involving a Telegram-based non-fungible token marketplace and a separate suspected attack on a Chinese payment platform.

The company said the personal details likely belonged to the actor responsible for the activity, but cautioned that currently available information could not definitively identify the attacker.

Authorities in Seoul are investigating cyberattacks that affected multiple financial institutions after banks, including Shinhan Bank and KB Kookmin Bank, reported data breaches.

South Korean police, who have launched a probe, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said on Tuesday that signs had emerged that AI was used in some of the hacking incidents and called for heightened cybersecurity measures.

Biohaven Enters Strategic Licensing Agreement with Ono Pharma for Extracellular IgG Degraders

in Japan and Select Asian Regions, Lead Candidate BHV-1300 in Phase 3 for Graves' Disease

  • Ono will obtain an exclusive license to develop and commercialize Biohaven's MoDE pan IgG degraders in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and ASEAN member states, led by BHV-1300 and including certain next-generation follow-on IgG degraders. Biohaven will receive up to $100 million in near-term payments, including $80 million upfront and eligible to receive another $20 million upon a milestone achievement anticipated within a year, and royalties of approximately twenty percent on net sales by Ono in the licensed territory. Biohaven retains all rights outside of the licensed territory, including in the US, Europe, and China.
  • BHV-1300, the lead MoDE degrader, is an investigational small-molecule extracellular IgG degrader in Phase 3 development for Graves' disease, the lead indication. In a Phase 1b study in patients with Graves' disease, BHV-1300 produced deep reduction in the pathogenic autoantibody to the TSH receptor, rapid normalization of free T3 and free T4, and improvement in patient symptoms, with selective sparing of IgG3 and patient-friendly autoinjector self-administration.
  • This is the first regional collaboration for an extracellular protein degrader, pairing Biohaven's clinically validated MoDE platform, predicated on groundbreaking chemistry originating at Yale University, with Ono's proven development and commercial capabilities across Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.

Pezeshkian urges energy cuts as Iran grapples with economic pressure

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on Iranians to reduce energy consumption, saying a 10% cut could eliminate the country’s need for energy imports as Tehran faces mounting economic pressure.

“If we can control consumption somewhat, we will not need anything,” Pezeshkian told a meeting of senior police commanders on Thursday. “With just a 10% reduction in consumption, a significant amount will be saved and we will no longer need to import energy.”

He said expanding a government-backed car-free day initiative nationwide could save about 10 million liters of fuel a day.

Pezeshkian described economic pressure on Iran as harder to confront than military conflict, saying, “Military war is visible, but economic war is not visible and is far harder and heavier.”

He also warned that disruptions to production could deepen public dissatisfaction, saying the government would prioritize keeping energy supplies flowing to industry even if that required cuts to government offices.
