North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Mark Rutte insisted on Monday that there are "absolutely" no plans for the alliance to become directly involved in the United States and Israel's military campaign against Iran.
Still, while speaking to ARD, Rutte expressed support for the operation. He described the feat as "really important" and stressed that Iran should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
Earlier in the day, Rutte had a telephone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who, according to his office's statement, "underlined the importance of giving diplomacy a chance for lasting and sustainable peace." During the conversation, Rutte "said that NATO will continue to contribute to ensuring the security of the allies with a 360-degree perspective."
