US President Donald Trump said Washington is working to support Lebanon but insisted that Hezbollah must be removed, describing the group as a long-standing source of instability in the country. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump said the United States and allies "gotta get rid of Hezbollah", arguing that the armed faction has been a "disaster for many years."
His remarks come as Israel has resumed heavy strikes in southern Lebanon, with troops entering the country, resulting in more than 570 deaths and over 1,400 injuries.
He also continued criticizing Spain during the exchange, accusing the country of not contributing enough to NATO and suggesting its leadership had performed poorly. Trump said Spain had relied on the alliance's protection while failing to meet its financial commitments, adding that the Spanish people are "fantastic" but that their leadership is "not so good."
