The Nasdaq announced Monday that it will launch an overnight trading session to "meet rising demand for US equities across the globe," expanding market access to 23 hours a day, five days a week.
The change is expected to take effect on December 6, pending approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The new trading session on the Nasdaq Stock Market is expected to start from 9 pm to 4 am ET.
Trades executed between 9 pm and midnight will be recorded under the next calendar day's trade date, while transactions conducted from midnight to 8 pm will be reported under the current day's trade date.
