The United States Department of State stated on Saturday that the Trump administration wants "nothing more than for [Hezbollah] to hand over their weapons" and that it is ready to try to bring the views of Hezbollah and the Lebanese government "close to each other."
However, it noted that Hezbollah is currently not willing to communicate with either Lebanon, the US, or Israel, "because it is simply taking orders from Iran." The State Department repeated that the US stands with the Lebanese people and wants Lebanon to be a "safe and sovereign country," adding that Hezbollah must surrender its weapons as a prerequisite.
