Iran-backed Iraqi armed group Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada said in a statement that it would cooperate with efforts to bring weapons under state control only if 10 conditions were met, foremost among them the complete withdrawal of US forces from Iraq, Shafaq News reported Saturday.
The group demanded an end to any US military presence “under any title,” a ban on using Iraqi airspace to launch attacks on neighboring countries, and stronger Iraqi armed forces and air defenses, according to the statement.
Its other conditions included the withdrawal of PKK fighters and Turkish forces from northern Iraq, federal control over the Kurdistan Region’s borders and crossings, and the removal of Iranian opposition groups based in the north.
The statement comes as Baghdad faces growing pressure to bring weapons held by Iran-backed factions under state control, with Iraqi authorities setting a September 30 deadline for armed groups to disarm.
