Retired Port Authority cops have joined the ranks of Sept. 11 survivors demanding Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hocul keep away from the 25th anniversary ceremony, The Post has learned.
The Port Authority Retired Police Association penned scathing letters to the lefty pols insisting they are not welcome at the hallowed memorial.
“We do not believe you have earned the privilege to stand at Ground Zero alongside us, the families, survivors, and our fellow first responders,” President John McDevitt declared in the Aug. 11 letter addressed to Mamdani, writing on behalf of the group’s 600 New York and New Jersey members.
“Your presence at Ground Zero on 9/11 would cause profound pain to members of the 9/11 community and risk turning a solemn day of remembrance into a political controversy.”
The association pointed to Mamdani’s Israel-bashing “rhetoric and affiliations that we believe have been hostile to law enforcement” as the reason for their demands, as well as political statements they view as “sympathetic” to anti-American movements or individuals.
The letter sent to Hochul was even more brutal, with McDevitt claiming the “tone deaf” gov made an unforgivable decision to illuminate One World Trade Center alongside her proclamation recognizing January as Muslim American Heritage Month.
“To those of us who served there, your decision to utilize the WTC for this purpose was extremely tone-deaf, insensitive, and an affront to us, our families, and all those affected by this attack. Your action displayed neither concern nor reverence for the fallen,” the president wrote.
“Because of that insensitive and tone-deaf decision, we believe you have forfeited the privilege of standing alongside us, the 9/11 families, and fellow first responders at Ground Zero on this 25th anniversary.”
Hochul’s office didn’t immediately return The Post’s request for comment.
A Mamdani spokesperson reiterated that the mayor will be there on Sept. 11 to “proudly honor the families, the survivors, the first responders forever impacted by that horrific terror attack by standing alongside them at this year’s 9/11 commemoration.”
Thirty-seven PAPD officers were killed in the line of duty on 9/11.
The retired officers’ demands come weeks after a petition was launched demanding that Mamdani skip the memorial ceremony at Ground Zero.
More than 95,000 have since signed the call to action.
