The US Treasury plans to impose new secondary sanctions related to Iran every week, beginning with banks, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Reuters.
“We’re telling banks it’s not OK to have Iranian money and to aid the Iranian regime,” Bessent said.
He rejected the argument that Washington’s pressure campaign could succeed only if it imposed secondary sanctions on Chinese companies, saying the US blockade of Iranian ports had already curbed Chinese imports of Iranian oil.
