US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Iran was taking US sanctions seriously and that Washington would continue exerting economic pressure.
“They are lashing out kinetically because they are losing economically,” Bessent told reporters at a meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in North Carolina.
Iran’s economy did not need to collapse but its leadership “just needs to come to its senses,” Bessent added.
