'Iran says Europe cannot claim strategic autonomy while following US'

 

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Monday that Europe could no longer speak of “strategic autonomy” while carrying out Washington’s policies.

“Europe must choose: to behave like an independent actor, or to grow so accustomed to echoing another’s policies that it mistakes that echo for autonomy,” Baghaei wrote in a post on X.

Referring to Étienne de La Boétie’s Discourse on Voluntary Servitude, Baghaei wrote that “domination is not sustained by force alone; it often endures through the acquiescence of those who are capable of acting independently.”
