Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv is counting on China to play a "strong diplomatic role" in efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Zelensky thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for congratulating Ukraine on its 35th Independence Day, after previously thanking leaders from several other countries for their messages.
He said relations between the two countries have been built on mutual respect and recognition of their peoples' values. "Peace can be our shared achievement," he added.
