Build data centers here...

by Noel S. Williams

Mr. Musk intends to build data centers in space; Greenland is not as far though, or cold.

Clearly, there is demand for data centers; just look at the exuberant spending from the tech hyperscalers like Meta, Google, Amazon, etc. Equally clear is that Democrat politicians, including governors in states like Texas, Ohio, and Georgia want to milk, or should that be bilk, our tech giants’ coffers. They'll impose exorbitant regulations, taxes, stock awards, and joint ownership.

Indeed, as I type, many of the providers of data centers, including the infrastructure and optical components that speed data transmission, continue a post-election plummet (consumers such as hyperscalers are holding up okay, for now, as they may spend less, which will limit negative cash flows).

Greenland may be more friendly.

Under the trilateral security agreement reached in September 2026, and ratified by Greenland’s parliament, the U.S. has an expanded footprint on the world’s biggest island. Mostly, it is for military access, but the deal is very favorable to us and allows for abundant access to natural resources. Unlike Texas and Arizona, for example, water and cooling of the overheated circuitry in the servers and whatnot won’t be a problem.

Here’s the crux of the matter: data centers are actively used for military purposes including running AI/SI models that support combat missions. The Greenland deal allows us to modernize and expand activities. Doesn’t it make sense, then, to build those modern, expansive data centers along our North Atlantic Track? They may have a primary military justification, but also be capable of ad-hoc, just-in-time requisitioning. Nudge, nudge, wink-wink.

Gina Hinojosa, the governor-elect of Texas, campaigned against data centers. She and her cohorts will hold our tech companies to a king’s ransom. Moreover, data centers were unanimously rejected by voters across the contiguous states. But non-contiguous Greenland is not as far away or foreboding as space. Build away. After all, staying ahead in the AI/SI race is a matter of national security, our raison d’etre for expanding our presence in Greenland.
