Alphabet Inc.'s Google announced on Thursday that it will invest $17 billion in developing its first data center in the state of Wyoming, in partnership with Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, American Electric Power (AEP), and Related Digital.
The tech giant revealed that the project will involve 702-megawatt fuel cell development with carbon capture and storage (CCS), with the fuel cells manufactured by Bloom Energy in the US. The company added that the project will build on the previously announced CCS project in Illinois and that it will bring Google's total contracted CCS capacity to almost 1 gigawatt.
Google also stated that the Wyoming data center will be air-cooled to minimize the impact on local water resources, in line with the company's water stewardship commitments.
