Nvidia Corp. is in talks with Apollo Global Management to buy buildings belonging to Brightspeed, an internet service provider owned by Apollo, the Information reported on Thursday. As the company allegedly nears bankruptcy, Nvidia offered to repurpose some of its facilities as small data centers, according to people familiar with the matter.
One source said Nvidia submitted a proposal to Brightspeed, including a request for "additional information, data, and field visits to several sites." It is currently unclear how many buildings Nvidia is looking to take over, with the report claiming that it estimated they have around 1 gigawatt of available power in total, and one source suggesting the tech giant is likely to use the facilities to run existing models, rather than power new ones, which require more resources.
