Victor Davis Hanson: DEI Cronyism And Woke Grifters

by Victor Davis Hanson via American Greatness,

When ideology replaces meritocracy or provides immunity from the consequences of illegal behavior, systemic mediocrity follows.

Under toxic National Socialism, Stalinism, and Maoism, millions of cronies and grifters mouthed party lines in hopes that their approved ideology would allow them to advance their careers and excuse their lawbreaking.

The same thing has happened with the woke movement and the now-huge Diversity/Equity/Inclusion conglomerate.

Grifters and opportunists mask their selfish agendas under the cloak of neo-Marxist care for the underprivileged or victimized minorities. Meanwhile, they seek to profit illegally as if they were old-fashioned crony capitalists.

During the disastrous COVID-19 lockdown, California governor Gavin Newsom pontificated about leveraging the quarantine to ensure greater equality: “There is opportunity for reimagining a [more] progressive era as it [relates] to capitalism…We see this as an opportunity to reshape the way we do business and how we govern.”

Meanwhile, Newsom did not seem very “progressive” when he was caught in one of California’s most expensive restaurants dining with sidekick lobbyists while violating the very mask and social distancing rules he had mandated for 40 million others.

Newsom also bragged about social equity when he signed a new California law mandating $20 an hour for fast-food workers—while many of his own employees at his various company-controlled eateries made only $16 an hour.

And he allegedly gave a unique exemption from his wage law to one particular bakery/restaurant chain, Panera, whose owner is an old friend and major campaign contributor.

Newsom apparently feels that the more progressively he postures, the less he’ll be called out for his own hypocrisy and self-interested agendas.

In another egregious case, the now-imprisoned felon, Sam Bankman-Fried, may have been the greatest con artist in American history. He siphoned billions of dollars from his cryptocurrency company, destroying the fortunes of thousands when his multi-billion-dollar Ponzi empire collapsed.

How did Sam and his two Stanford law-professor parents manage to accumulate millions of dollars in resort properties and perks without getting caught until after their empire collapsed?

Answer: Sam showered millions of dollars on left-wing politicians to advance their progressive crusades. His parents justified this family giving as a form of “effective altruism.”

That catchy phrase masked the reality that his crusade for social justice was just an incredibly effective get-rich-quick scheme.

The Bankman-Fried family apparently reasoned that their devotion to this woke form of “altruism” would translate into riches for themselves, albeit bankruptcies for investors.

Another example: in Georgia’s Fulton County, District Attorney Fani Willis ran for office, promising to indict supposed right-wing monster Donald Trump.

She raised campaign money on her woke credentials. Often, when challenged, she played the race victim card.

Meanwhile, Willis hired as a special prosecutor her secret paramour, the incompetent Nathan Wade, although he had never tried a single felony or even criminal case.

She and Wade then went on expensive junkets. She claimed that she reimbursed him with cash that was, of course, unverifiable.

Given their woke ideology, both assumed they were entitled to splurge at taxpayers’ expense, offer likely-false testimony under oath, and violate canons of professional behavior for lawyers.

She wasn’t alone in her corruption. After the death of George Floyd, the founders of the left-wing Black Lives Matter movement went on a house-buying rampage. The more corporations filled their coffers with millions, either from guilt or as protection money, the more new homes the directors purchased.

One co-founder, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, a self-described Marxist, splurged by spending $3.2 million in BLM money to buy herself four upscale residences.

And the most radical Democratic members of Congress—the so-called Squad—apparently feel that the more they level accusations of racism, the more they can profit without fearing any consequences for their wrongdoing.

One squad member, Rep. Ilhan Omar, redirected $2.8 million of her office’s allotted government money to her husband’s political consulting company.

Still another member, the radical leftist Rep. Cori Bush, often harangued the country to defund the police. Now the FBI is investigating her for stealthily paying tens of thousands of campaign dollars to her own husband for “security.”

Woke and DEI activists may not necessarily be any more innately mediocre, corrupt, or conniving than other politicians and activists.

But they seem so, because they loudly broadcast that they are for “diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusion”—and thus assume themselves to be exempt from all scrutiny and free to profit in any way they please.

The woke/DEI project is enticing thousands of shysters, careerists, and mediocrities, all keen to enrich themselves on the premise that they are noble fighters for social justice who deserve immunity from any scrutiny.

How odd it is that America is wasting billions of dollars hiring DEI czars and electing woke politicians who so often accuse others of a multitude of sins, largely as a way of enriching themselves, hiding their own culpability, and making a mockery of the law.

Biden COVID spend comes back to bite as inflation remains high: economists

President Biden and senior White House officials are scrambling to explain stubbornly-high inflation levels, which economic experts blame on the administration's own spending agenda.

Following the latest consumer price index (CPI) reading Wednesday, Biden said his top economic priority is fighting inflation but blamed businesses that are recording high profits and Republicans seeking to "slash taxes for billionaires." The CPI report published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed annual inflation accelerated 3.5%, faster than expected for a third straight month in March.

"Prices are still too high for housing and groceries, even as prices for key household items like milk and eggs are lower than a year ago," Biden said.

Deputy Biden Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo separately added in an interview with CNBC the administration's plan "is to do everything we can on our end" to fight inflation. And White House spokesperson Michael Kikukawa told FOX Business Thursday inflation was caused by supply chain and economic factors linked to the pandemic.

At the beginning of this year, the gross U.S. national debt surpassed $34 trillion, a new record.

But several experts blamed Biden's actions for the persistent inflation levels. They noted he has pushed several massive spending packages, namely the American Rescue Plan and a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus package that have sunk the nation deeper into debt.

"Annual spending has leaped $2 trillion since 2019. Additionally, deficits doubled last year from $1 trillion to $2 trillion during peace and prosperity," Brian Riedl, an economist and senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, told FOX Business. "So, the Biden administration is continuing to hit the gas pedal on fiscal policy and forcing the Federal Reserve to hit the gas pedal even harder.

placeholder

"Of course, you're going to have inflation when Congress and the president are signing trillions of dollars in new spending and, again, pushing up annual deficits to $2 trillion a year. This is textbook expansionary fiscal policy. The harder the White House hits the gas on fiscal policy, the harder the Fed is going to have to hit the brakes on monetary policy. That just means higher interest rates and more pain for a lot of families."

Congress passed the American Rescue Plan, which was among Biden's first priorities after taking office, in March 2021. The legislation sent stimulus checks worth $1,400 to most Americans and increased the child tax credit to between $3,000-3,600 per child.

An analysis by economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco one year later showed U.S. inflation rates had outpaced other developed countries, largely due to "fiscal support measures designed to counteract the severity of the pandemic’s economic effect." The analysis showed that federal stimulus effforts, including the American Rescue Plan, boosted inflation by about 3%.

Riedl added that, in addition to stimulus spending passed in response to the pandemic, Biden's push for a student loan bailout plan, so-called Buy America rules, an expanded regulatory regime and new tariffs on foreign goods has also added to inflation and higher consumer prices.

E.J. Antoni, an economist and research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, further pointed to Biden's other major spending packages, like the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the $739 billion Inflation Reduction Act.

"This last CPI print proves that inflation is not going anywhere anytime soon," Antoni told FOX Business. "If you look at the amount of spending that we have today, thanks to the infrastructure spending, thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act and other bloated spending bills that we've had in the last three years, you can see the direct correlation between that and the deficit – and the monetization of that debt by the Federal Reserve via growing the money supply.

"So, there's a very clear link between the government spending too much money and ultimately the consumer having to pay for that spending via higher consumer prices."

Marc Goldwein is the senior policy director of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonprofit public policy organization based in Washington, D.C. He argued inflation could be tied to COVID-19 stimulus packages, which funneled money into the economy rapidly rather than spending earmarked in other legislation, which has largely gone unspent since they were passed.

Goldwein warned that the nation's growing deficit remains a key issue that is only exacerbated by spending increases.

"The major money that we spent on COVID, starting in the Trump administration and then especially the American Rescue Plan under President Biden, were a significant contributor to the inflation that we saw in 2021, 2022," he said. "Other things like the student debt pause, various Buy America regulations, other things that the Biden administration has done since, have contributed."

In response to the criticisms, the White House issued a statement.

"The once-in-a-century pandemic and Putin’s war in Ukraine disrupted supply chains, spending patterns and food and energy markets, causing inflation to spike around the world. Indeed, inflation was worse in many other countries," Kikukawa wrote to Fox Business.

"If you want to talk about the economic effects the American Rescue Plan had on our economy, here’s one: Under President Biden, the U.S. has had the strongest economic recovery of any leading economy, with unemployment below 4% for the longest stretch in over 50 years."

Deep State Prepares For A Trump Victory

by Jeffrey A. Tucker via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

We’ve all wondered if the fix is already in. Given the irregularities of the last election, and the manner in which the whole of the U.S. establishment rallied around one side, maybe a Biden victory in November is a foregone conclusion.

I’m guilty of believing this. I’ve doubted every prediction that Donald Trump or RFK, Jr. can win. This is not because they won’t get votes. It’s because those votes might not matter enough.

The power of haters is awesome and ubiquitous. The whole of legacy media, government, corporate tech, pharma, and both the administrative state and the deep state are dedicated to keeping them and their supporters from power.

We don’t even know if elections really work anymore. It’s entirely possible, in this view, that millions will slog to the polls in November and do their duty in what will only end up as theater. The regime controls the ballots, surely, and nothing can overcome that. A second Biden term, the most unpopular president in my lifetime, is inevitable, in this view. The system is too broken to generate any other outcome.

Admit it: you have been tempted by this outlook too.

Well, I’m here to bring you some good news. The deep state has blinked. I will present evidence to you that the bad guys are actually preparing for a full-blown assault on administrative state hegemony. They are working to protect themselves against a victory by someone other than Joe Biden.

Will it work? I don’t know but what’s super critical is that they are preparing. If it were not possible to win, they wouldn’t bother. In other words, this is very good news!

The evidence comes from a largely unnoticed press release from the Office of Personnel Management. The legacy media did not report on this at all.

It reads as follows:

“The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) today announced a final rule that clarifies and reinforces long-standing protections and merit system principles for career civil servants,” says the press release.

It goes on to explain that this rule change makes it much more difficult or even impossible for any new president to reclassify “civil servants” as being under the control of the president. Instead, their jobs are permanent and thus protected against any efforts by a future president to reclassify anyone working for the federal government. None can be fired.

In particular, the press release explains, this is designed to thwart another attempt to change their employment status, as happened in November 2020.

“In the first week of the Biden-Harris Administration, President Biden revoked an Executive Order issued by the previous Administration that risked altering our country’s long-standing merit-based civil service system, by creating a new excepted service schedule, known as ‘Schedule F,’ and directing agencies to move potentially large swathes of career employees into this new excepted service status. This attempt would have stripped career civil servants of their civil service protections that ensure that decisions to hire and fire are based on merit, not political considerations.”

The “previous administration” means of course the Trump White House, which issued the greatest executive order in a hundred years.

After four years of being subverted and thwarted by the civil service bureaucracy, the White House finally figured out the core problem. There are more than 2 million permanent bureaucrats, ensconced in 430 agencies, who imagine themselves to live outside the democratic system and the U.S. Constitution itself. They believe they are the state and the elected leaders are mere decoration.

Trump’s executive order insisted that every agency do an internal audit and ferret out any employee who has something to do with making or interpreting policy; that is, anyone whose work impacts on whether the president actually has control of the executive department. All those employees would be reclassified as Schedule F, meaning that they could be replaced if need be.

That’s it. That’s the whole order. Maybe it doesn’t seem like much but it was actually brilliant. The Trump administration is the first to discover the great secret of American public life, which is that the administrative state has taken on a life of its own. After years of trying, the Trump White House finally happened upon a key lever to gain back control for the people. It’s as simple as that.

The Washington, D.C. political press freaked out. It was as if a president had found the engine room and the one switch that controls the whole thing. That was never supposed to happen. This produced mayhem inside the bureaucracy, and a doubling and tripling down on the conviction that he could never win a second term, lest this order be carried out.

That’s why one of the very first actions of the Biden administration was to repeal this executive order. That action made it very clear that Biden’s loyalties were with the deep state first and foremost. He would protect their jobs and power above all else. In fact, the OPM press release brags about this.

At issue here is a phrase from the initial Trump order. Any employee would be reclassified who deals with “confidential, policy determining, policymaking, or policy-advocating.” Notice this word confidential. This would apply to the whole of the intelligence community, perhaps. So wait, are we saying that the president should be in charge of the CIA, FBI, NSA, NSC, and the entire security apparatus, even to the point that he could fire anyone? Maybe so!

Such a situation would be intolerable to the bad guys. From their point of view, this would fundamentally upend the functioning of government in America.

Let’s face it. If the OPM and the whole of the bureaucracy believed there was no threat from Donald Trump or RFK, Jr., such a rule change would not be necessary. They believe it is necessary, which implies that the civil service thinks that the rising populist movement is a genuine threat that could succeed in taking back the country. Otherwise, they wouldn’t bother.

What is the OPM? It was founded out of the Pendleton Act of 1883, which started the permanent bureaucracy in the United States. With it came the Civil Service Commission, the first name of what later was called the OPM.

Until that time, and under the Constitution, the U.S. president had full control of the bureaucracy. The new president would typically replace a vast number of bureaucrats with loyalists. This was denounced as the “spoils system” but it could also be called simple democracy in which the people rule themselves through their elected representatives.

The permanent class of rules grew through wars and crises over a hundred years to become the government that cares not a whit for who is technically elected or otherwise appointed as agency heads. As a matter of habit, they have come to ignore all the comings and goings of the people elected by the population. Elections are just a distraction to them.

The essential point: Donald Trump and RFK, Jr. represent a genuine threat to the gang that has subverted and nearly wrecked this country. Now we know that this threat is real, else we would not see these efforts to entrench the bad guys and protect them against all conceivable threats.

As this proves again, the main struggle alive in this country and all over the world is the one between the people and the deep state consisting of a vast network of elites in government, media, the corporate world, banking and finance, private foundations, and global bureaucracies, all working for their own interests at the expense of everyone else.

It’s a battle for control, and it is the underlying dynamic that shapes our lives right now.

The bad guys are scared. Now we know this for sure, or they would not be trying to pre-rig the system against fundamental change. The elites believe based on long experience that they can always outwit the rest of the population. We shall see.

It’s going to be brutal before and after the election. There will be one or several October surprises. If Donald Trump wins, the onset of Winter will kick off propaganda like you have never seen. As the inauguration approaches, absolute hysteria will dawn. The COVID racket will seem like child’s play. Every day and every hour after will consist of wild attempts to stop the administration from functioning. What a time to be alive.

Shares Of Morgan Stanley Sink After Multiple Federal Regulators Probe Wealth-Management Practices

Shares of Morgan Stanley stumbled in the late afternoon trading session in New York after The Wall Street Journal reported multiple federal regulators are probing the investment bank/financial services company over how it vets wealthy clients who are at risk of laundering money through its massive wealth-management division.

According to people familiar with the investigation, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and other Treasury Department offices are investigating the wealth management arm's process of identifying prospective clients and the sources of their wealth.

The federal agencies are also investigating whether the investment bank's unit monitors its clients' financial activity. The WSJ report noted, "Some of the probes are focused on the bank's international clients."

In a separate investigation, WSJ noted in November that the Federal Reserve launched a probe into the wealth management unit to determine whether the investment bank had sufficient controls to prevent money laundering from foreign customers.

The bank has few affluent foreign customers, but it manages about $5 trillion in assets for clients. In the last half-decade, it has hired financial advisers who specialize in catering to offshore clients, many in Central and South America.

In 2020, the Fed found Morgan Stanley lacked internal vetting controls over foreign customers. As a result, the Fed asked the bank to fix these problems, and when the Fed returned a year later, the issues were not fixed.

Wealth management is a significant source of revenue for Morgan Stanley. It has grown the division to nearly 50% of overall revenue - and helps the bank offset downturns in trading and deal-making activity.

WSJ's report also noted:

The SEC last year sent Morgan Stanley a list of current and former clients with questions about how they were vetted. It also questioned why Morgan Stanley's financial-adviser unit, which works directly with affluent individuals, did business with some clients who were cut off by E*Trade, the Morgan Stanley-owned digital trading platform, because of red flags.

The SEC's list includes a billionaire with ties to Russia who has been sanctioned by the U.K. and an individual who claimed she was based in the U.S. but whose activity on E*Trade indicated she was located on a Caribbean island and had more money in her account than would be typical for someone with her stated occupation.

Shares of Morgan Stanley stumbled 5% on the report.

Wonder what countries the probe is focused on. Russia?

First Texas, Now Iowa: State, Local Cops To Start Arresting Illegal Migrants In July

Following a path blazed by the once and future Republic of Texas, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds on Wednesday signed into law a measure making it a state crime to enter the Hawkeye State after being deported or denied entry into the country. As an "aggravated misdemeanor," it would subject illegal immigrants to imprisonment for up to two years.

Reynolds raced to sign the bill just one day after it cleared the state legislature. In a statement issued after the signing, she said President Biden's neglect of border security made it imperative for Iowa to step up and fill the void:

“The Biden Administration has failed to enforce our nation’s immigration laws, putting the protection and safety of Iowans at risk. Those who come into our country illegally have broken the law, yet Biden refuses to deport them. This bill gives Iowa law enforcement the power to do what he is unwilling to do: enforce immigration laws already on the books.”

In December, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a law making it a state crime to illegally enter the Lone Star State from a foreign nation. Under that law, illegal border crossings are now a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail. Repeat offenses will be a second-degree felony subject to prison sentences from two to 20 years. Judges can kill the charges if an arrested immigrant agrees to go back to Mexico.

Iowa's law is slated to take effect on July 1, but will certainly be challenged for allegedly exceeding state authority. The Texas law been on a litigation rollercoaster. In the latest move, the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated a lower court's injunction against enforcement of the law. While all that has been going on, nobody has been arrested under its authority.

Via the New York Times, here are the specifics on Iowa's particular assertion of state authority:

The law makes it a misdemeanor for a person to enter Iowa if they were previously deported from the United States, denied entry to the country, or left the country while facing a deportation order. In some cases, including people with certain prior convictions, the state crime would become a felony. To enforce the new law, Iowa police officers would be allowed to make arrests in most places, but not in schools, places of worship or health care facilities.

The ACLU's Mark Stringer condemned Iowa's new lawsaying it "tells Iowa judges to order someone to be deported or jailed before they have an opportunity to seek humanitarian protection that they are entitled to."

The new Iowa law isn't the only way the state has aligned with Texas. Joining at least 13 other states, Iowa has deployed 115 National Guard soldiers to Texas in support of Operation Lone Star, a combined Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety operation aimed at repelling illegal immigrants at the border and arresting human smugglers and drug traffickers.

In support of that operation, Texas has begun building "Forward Operating Base Eagle" in the border city of Eagle Pass. It will house upwards of 1,800 soldiers, and will include a 700-seat dining facility, workout equipment, a recreation center and laundries, vehicle maintenance bays, weapons storage rooms and a helipad.

Can we reverse Alzheimer’s disease? Eyeing ‘new paradigm’ for combating dementia

With more people dying from Alzheimer’s disease than ever before, experts are emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and intervention.

The number of fatalities due to the disease increased by 141% between 2000 and 2021, according to the 2024 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures report.

Also, the number of Americans living with the disease is on the rise as well — up to 6.9 million and counting.

"As older adults — mostly baby boomers born between 1946 and 1964 — are the fastest-growing segment of the population, and this same demographic is at the highest risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, it is not entirely surprising that the number of cases continues to grow," Dr. James Galvin, chief of cognitive neurology and director of the Comprehensive Center for Brain Health at The University of Miami Health System, told Fox News Digital.

Another factor contributing to the uptick of cases is that the disease is getting detected earlier, he noted — "due to scientific advances in knowledge, diagnostic criteria and laboratory tests that enable health care professionals to make diagnoses with greater surety and accuracy."

Importance of early detection

Early detection and diagnosis allows the family to plan for future care at a time when the patient is able to express their wishes and desires, Galvin noted.

Also, many of the available medications to reduce symptoms are most effective when started early in the course of the disease, he added.

Patients who are diagnosed early will also have a better chance of enrolling in clinical trials for new medications and diagnostics.

"There are newer medications that have the potential for disease modification that are approved or under consideration for approval, so patients have more treatment options," Galvin said.

placeholder

The current medications largely treat symptoms and slow progression of disease — but several trials are underway to test prevention therapies.

"Specifically, these are monoclonal antibodies against the amyloid beta-protein, the building block of the senile plaques in the Alzheimer’s brain," Galvin said.

"This is particularly exciting, because rather than being reactive after the disease starts, these new programs are proactive and could potentially have a much greater impact on public health."

Can Alzheimer’s be reversed?

Dr. Heather Sandison, a leading expert in Alzheimer's and related dementia care who is based in California, said that in some cases, the disease can be slowed or even reversed.

"The ways for individuals to potentially reverse Alzheimer's vary, because the causes of Alzheimer's vary from person to person," Sandison, author of the upcoming book "Reversing Alzheimer’s: The New Toolkit to Improve Cognition and Protect Brain Health," told Fox News Digital.

"Instead of thinking of one way or one of two ways, I propose an entirely new paradigm of thinking about the causes of Alzheimer's disease — identifying them for the individual and creating a targeted, precise approach to treatment."

placeholder

One person, for example, may have Alzheimer's that is associated with genetic predisposition, high blood sugar and a history of strokes, she noted.

Another individual may have Alzheimer's caused by the inhalation of toxins from environmental pollution, obstructive sleep apnea reducing the oxygen supply, and a history of traumatic brain injuries.

Someone else may have all of these factors.

"We would treat these individuals differently," Sandison said.

Regardless of risk factors, Sandison said the best ways to prevent Alzheimer's are to eat a diet high in vegetables, good fats and proteins, while also getting regular vigorous exercise, quality sleep and daily stress management practices.

"The choices you make each day about what you put in your mouth, how much you move and what time you get to bed have the biggest impact on your long-term brain health," she said.

Like any complex system, the brain and body require a "homeodynamic balance" to function well, according to Sandison.

"Imbalance — too much, too little, in the wrong place, at the wrong time — will create dysfunction and, in the case of the body and brain, disease," she warned.

"The primary causes of imbalance in the brain include toxins, nutrients, stressors, structure, infections and signaling."

With her reversal techniques, Sandison said she sees the best results with patients who are younger than 75, have MoCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment) scores of 18 and above, and have a supportive network of loved ones around them, "so they can dive fully into the lifestyle changes."

She added, "That being said, we have seen miraculous results with patients in their 80s with single-digit MoCA scores."

"You don't have to be perfect, but in order to get results, you need to be willing and able to make some changes," Sandison continued.

"If you have that, there is room for hope, no matter how much the disease has progressed."

To her patients, Sandison recommends combining lifestyle recommendations with conventional medicine.

"Diet, lifestyle and functional medicine approaches are best used collaboratively with a primary care provider and neurologist on your team," she said.

"I am hopeful that in the future, we will use the plaque-busting drugs to reduce structural changes in the brain … in combination with the multi-pronged approach to reversing Alzheimer’s."

‘Connection over correction’

Sandison coined the "connection over correction" approach as a way of helping caregivers deal with what can often feel like an "overwhelming burden."

"There are complex emotions — ranging from joy and gratitude for the precious time with a loved one to grief and despair as you lose them slowly," she said.

"The physical, financial and emotional toll adds up."

One way to reduce the burden is to accept that your loved one has changed and stop correcting them, according to Sandison.

"Focus your energy on connecting with them in a way that honors their current capacity," she advised.

"If they make a mistake with a word or repeat a question or miss an appointment … make accommodations and focus on the positive aspects of the day, not dwelling on or emphasizing the mistake."

Having compassion for loved ones with dementia and understanding they have a disease they cannot control can help to reframe these frustrating situations, she said.

"We all function best when we are experiencing connections with others and when we can avoid the unnecessary stress of feeling we are wrong or as if we have displeased someone," Sandison added.

The biggest myth surrounding brain health, she said, is that nothing can be done to prevent or reverse dementia or Alzheimer's.

"That just isn't true," she said. "It's almost overwhelming how much you can do to optimize cognitive function at any stage of life."
