Biden let over 100,000 migrants into US in June, despite ‘crackdown’ on asylum

More than 100,000 migrants were allowed into the US in June — despite President Biden’s crackdown that purportedly cut off asylum claims for illegal border crossers.

The stunning figure includes 30,000 illegal border crossers were who were allowed in — more than one-third of all migrants caught at the US-Mexico border, according to leaked documents obtained by The Post.

The documents from the Department of Homeland Security show that thousands of illegal migrants are still being allowed into the US each week, even though Biden had claimed his executive order would stem the tide of migrants being allowed into the US.

Additionally, various loopholes and programs launched by the Biden administration allow thousands more migrants per day into the country by legal routes — including the CBP One app and flights from places like Venezuela and Haiti.

The total figure of migrants allowed to stay in the US in June is 103,500, an analysis by The Post shows.

Illegal border crossings in June dropped by about 20% from the same month in 2023.

The 84,000 migrants caught at the border last month is the the lowest illegal border crossing figure during the Biden administration.

But, the migrants who were released have future court dates in the US — adding to the backlog of more than 3 million pending cases in immigration courts across the country.

Biden’s ‘crackdown’ will continue until daily crossings hit an average of 1,500 or less per day for a week.

Biden’s executive order went into effect June 5 and will remain as long as crossings don’t fall below an average of 1,500 daily crossings for seven days in a row — a level not reached since the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

If the restrictions pause, they can go back into effect if and when crossings average 2,500 or more for another week.

While the order remains in effect, migrants crossing the southern border illegally are supposed to be ineligible for asylum. However, the policy allows for a number of exceptions including for migrants with a fear of returning home or for unaccompanied children.

There are also several other ways that migrants are allowed to stay in the US.

Migrants crossing into the San Diego region who come from more than 100 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa are exempt from the executive order’s restrictions — and are being released into the country because their countries won’t accept deportees.

The Biden administration also continues to accept up to 30,000 migrants per month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela, who arrive on commercial flights to the US via a humanitarian parole program.

Another 1,450 migrants per day who use the CBP One phone app to cross the border legally from Mexico at an entry port.

It’s not clear exactly how many migrants were allowed into the US under these programs in June.

Biden’s Homeland Security chief, Alejandro Mayorkas, touted the latest restrictions as a success during a visit to Tucson, Arizona, last week.

“The president’s actions are working because of their tough response to illegal crossings and because they built on our sustained effort to exercise our full authorities to enforce the law and impose consequences for illegal entry.”

Cassava forms committee after US probe, researcher fraud

Cassava Sciences (SAVA) is reportedly forming a committee to investigate two senior employees. This comes after a US probe into fraud and a Cassava researcher was indicted by a jury over alleged fabrication of Alzheimer's drug trial results.

Transcript

Sava Science is announcing today, it's forming a committee to investigate two senior employees.

This coming days after a researcher connected, the company was indicted on fraud charges that researcher allegedly submitting fake data to the National Institutes of health related to an experimental Alzheimer's treatment.

The stock was also temporally halted Friday due to volatility after plummeting more than 40%.

So this one is a it's a complicated one show.

I mean, Cassava is a small company, it's market capital 600 million, but it was making headlines.

And per reports you did have this advisor to the company indicted by a jury.

The allegation is submitting fabricated falsified data to secure this I guess 16 million grants from the National Institute of Health.

In a statement to the journal, the company would say, listen, this person is no longer a paid advisor to the company hasn't been involved in late stage testing for this drug in question, but certainly getting a lot of attention.

It certainly is getting a lot of attention.

Now, doubts surrounding this drug first started just about three years ago here followed by that investigation by the SEC in November of 2021.

So we have been talking about this now for a bit of time now because Sava Sciences to their defense, they added that this doctor had no involvement with the late stage trial.

So trying to reassure some of the skeptical investors out there just about the impact that maybe he had had on some of those later stage trials here.

But again, lots of or indeed, they did also say that they terminated their consulting relationship with the doctor prior to his indictment.

But clearly, it's a note I reached out to the analyst at HC Wainwright because they cover the name, bottom line.

They did downgrade the stock, the new to neutral.

They did not assign a price target, telling their clients who was the quote.

We believe this controversy could be a significant long term challenge to realizing upside in Cassava stock and a top trending take here on Yahoo Finance today.

Arab League Suddenly Revokes Hezbollah's Terrorist Designation

While some Western countries have ramped up sanctions against Hezbollah amid daily missile fire on northern Israel, the Arab League has issued a surprise reversal of its terror designation.

The influential regional organization, which is akin to an 'Arab UN' will no longer classify the Tehran-backed group as a terrorist organization, Egypt’s Al-Qahera news channel first reported.

Spokesman for the pan-Arab organization Hossam Zaki explained of the reversal during a visit to Beirut that "in earlier Arab League decisions, Hezbollah was designated as a terrorist organization. This terminology was reflected in our resolutions, and led to the severing of our communication with them [Hezbollah]."

"Member states of the Arab League have now agreed that this approach no longer applies," Zaki said. He referenced the possibility of establishing direct communications with Hezbollah as a matter of urgent diplomacy, which is only enabled by dropping the terror label.

Zaki also asserted that Hezbollah "has a major role in Lebanon's future". Interestingly the statement comes just as the paramilitary group, which has representation in Lebanese parliament, is on the brink of all-out war with Israel.

Israel will likely see this drastic change as more of an anti-Israel move by the Arab League. According to geopolitical analyst Lisa Daftari, since its founding Hezbollah has received help from Iran's elite IRGC, "the faction has grown to become the world’s most powerful non-state actor, claiming a membership of 100,000, an arsenal of 120,000 rockets, and an annual budget of $700 million."

There is also widespread acknowledgement that Hezbollah is much more powerful and better armed force than Hamas:

"Hezbollah is the crown jewel in the Iranian empire of terror and evil and is by far the most powerful Iranian proxy, equipped with nation state capabilities and even more firepower than several European countries have today," former IDF spokesman Jonathan Conricus told Fox News.

"In a military comparison, Hezbollah is far more powerful than Hamas," he added.

The White House has repeatedly warned that escalation in Lebanon would neither be good for Israel nor for the region, and would risk a broader major war with Iran.

Earlier this month Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "Whoever thinks he can hurt us and we will respond by sitting on our hands is making a big mistake." The situation was further complicated last month when massive fires spread in the north due to constant Hezbollah drone and missile attacks. "We are prepared for very intense action in the north," the Israeli leader has warned.
