Sanctuary state’ Gov. Walz gave illegal migrants taxpayer-funded health care, tuition, driver licenses

President Biden’s “border czar,” Veep Kamala Harris, has chosen a fellow soft-on-illegal-immigration politician as her running mate.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, 60, who was named Harris’ vice presidential pick Tuesday, has supported efforts to turn his home state into a sanctuary state while also backing other stances that cater to undocumented migrants.

“My position on Minnesota becoming a sanctuary state boils down to who has the responsibility for enforcing immigration laws,” Walz told CBS News in 2018.

“Here’s what I believe: Congress has given federal agencies the authority to enforce immigration laws in Minnesota, and I support their doing so,” he said. “Congress has not given local law enforcement that same authority. The role of law enforcement is to enforce state and local laws, not federal immigration laws, and I strongly believe that they should not do so.”

“Sanctuary state” is an unofficial term that refers to states that limit or deny local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

As governor, Walz also has signed several pieces of legislation to provide state-funded health caredriver’s licenses and free college tuition to illegal migrants.

“Ensuring drivers in our state are licensed and carry insurance makes the roads safer for all Minnesotans,” Walz said in 2023 after signing the bill to allow thousands of illegal migrants in his state with driver’s licenses.

“As a longtime supporter of this bill, I am proud to finally sign it into law, making our roads safer and moving us toward our goal of making Minnesota the best state to raise a family for everyone.”

Walz also has “applauded” efforts to pull state troops from the southern border to protest the separation of migrant families under former President Donald Trump.

He also said he’d invest in a “ladder factory” when criticizing Trump’s border wall construction.

“I always say, ‘Let me know how high it is.’ If it’s 25 feet, then I’ll invest in a 30-foot-ladder factory. That’s not how you stop this,” Walz said at the time, adding that the border needs more technology and personnel.

Harris’ formal announcement revealing her pick for vice president is expected at a campaign event in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, when the duo will appear together for the first time, four people close to the process told CNN.

Harris, the Dems’ presidential nominee, has led the Biden administration’s disastrous effort to discourage illegal immigration from Central America during record illegal crossings at the southern border.

She has also supported decriminalizing illegal immigrationlikened ICE officers to the “KKK” and jumped on a false narrative that border agents whipped migrants.

Before becoming governor in 2018, Walz served in the Army National Guard for 24 years and a decade in the House of Reprsentatives.

Pakistani with ties to Iran tried to hire hitmen to potentially assassinate Trump, other US pols: feds

A Pakistani immigrant with alleged ties to Iran plotted to hire hitmen to assassinate former President Donald Trump and other US politicians, according to sources and a federal criminal complaint.

Asif Merchant, 46, is accused of planning political assassinations in New York City in August or early September, and paid men he believed to be contract killers advance payments of $5,000, according to US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Breon Peace.

Trump was among several current and former US government officials believed to be potential targets of the plot, a source familiar with the investigation told The Post.

Asif Merchant had been charged in connection with a failed assassination plot against former president Donald Trump.

Merchant travelled to New York in June to meet with the supposed hitmen – who turned out to be undercover law enforcement officers – and told them he was arranging the funds with a contact overseas, according to the US Attorney’s office.

Days later he came up with the cash in advance, and allegedly told the undercover agents they were going forward with the plot, prosecutors alleged.

The next month as he was preparing to leave the US on July 12, he was arrested.

After being detained, Merchant revealed that he had a wife and children living in Iran, and also a wife and children living in Pakistan, according to prosecutors.

Merchant was allegedly preparing to pay the hitmen $5,000.

One of Merchant’s homes is in the Iranian capital of Tehran, according to prosecutors.

Merchant’s alleged Iran-backed plot played a role in the Secret Service agreeing to bolster former president Donald Trump’s security detail before the July assassination attempt, sources told The Post.

Authorities said Iranian-tied plot is unrelated to the attempt on Trump’s life by Thomas Crooks, who opened fire from a roof top in Butler, Pennsylvania.

TG Therapeutics Stock Rockets As Surprise Profit Smashes Views

TG Therapeutics (TGTX) stock surged Tuesday after the drugmaker unexpectedly reported a second-quarter profit, thanks to significantly lower research and development expenses.

The biotech company also reported better-than-expected sales for its bread-and-butter product, a treatment for multiple sclerosis called Briumvi. TG's hiked guidance for the year looks "easily achievable," Evercore ISI analyst Michael DiFiore said in a report.

TG Therapeutics stock rocketed 23.5% to 21.27. That helped reverse a recent downtrend that saw shares fall almost 26% after a failed breakout on July 17, according to MarketSurge. TG Therapeutics stock retook its 50-day line at the open.

TG Therapeutics Stock: Briumvi Guidance Raised

Briumvi generated $72.6 million in June-quarter sales, handily beating expectations for $65.9 million, according to FactSet. Sales grew more than 350%. It's important to note the MS drug launched in January 2023, so the second quarter of 2023 would have been early in the launch.

TG Therapeutics also reported a 4-cent gain per share, reversing from a year-earlier loss of 34 cents and crushing forecasts for a 5-cent loss per share. DiFiore noted R&D costs came in 34% below expectations due to decreases in clinical trial spending and license milestones. That led to earnings that smashed views by 157%, he said.

He has an outperform rating and 40 price target on TG Therapeutics stock.

The company also raised its outlook for the year and now expects Briumvi to bring in $290 million to $300 million in full-year U.S. sales. Previously, TG expected $270 million to $290 million.

"Achieving fiscal year 2024 sales guidance seems easily achievable given current trends and considering the typical summer seasonality common to MS therapies," DiFiore said. "TG Therapeutics would only need to do about $86 million each in the third and fourth quarter."
