Housing starts in the United States came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,427,000 in June, surging 19% compared to the revised reading from the month prior, the US Census Bureau said in its report on Friday. Year-over-year, the figure was up 3.5%.
Compared to May, single-family housing starts fell 0.2% to stand at 895,000 in June. "The June rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 513,000," as mentioned in the report.
Privately-owned housing units that were granted building permits came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,367,000, down 3% compared to the revised May rate and 2.3% compared to June 2025. Privately-owned housing completions in the reported month amounted to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,392,000, increasing 3.3% month-on-month and 1.5% year-over-year. Single‐family housing completions grew 6.6% on a monthly basis to reach 964,000.
