Mangione to plead not guilty in NY

Luigi Mangione, 26, has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Brian Thompson — CEO of UnitedHealthcare, the nation’s largest health insurer — outside a midtown Manhattan hotel on Dec. 4.

Mangione pleaded not guilty to weapons charges in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, after he was nabbed a day earlier while eating at a McDonald’s in an Altoona, Pa., following a five-day manhunt.

The Ivy League grad from a wealthy and “beloved” Maryland family is fighting extradition to New York, where he faces the murder charge, among others.

Follow The Post’s live updates for the latest news as Luigi Mangione is in jail charged with Brian Thompson’s murder:

Luigi Mangione to plead not guilty to NY murder charge: lawyer

Luigi Mangione is expected to plead not guilty to murder charges in New York, his defense attorney, Tom Dickey, said.

“I’m telling you as his lawyer, he didn’t have any … representation until I got involved this afternoon," Dickey — who is based in Altoona, Pa., where Mangione was arrested Monday — said Tuesday.

"And I’m telling you he’s pleading not guilty,” the lawyer said.

The alleged assassin has already pleaded not guilty to forgery and weapons charges in Pennsylvania.

Mangione was charged Monday night in New York with second-degree murder for killing UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson, but is contesting his extradition.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office has 30 days to submit a warrant to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro seeking to bring back Mangione back to the Empire State.

Hochul’s office confirmed Tuesday it was working on the request.

Luigi Mangione appeared to reference lefty documentary filmmaker Michael Moore and former New York Times reporter Elisabeth Rosenthal in his manifesto as examples of people who have “illuminated the corruption and greed” of the health care industry.

While railing against the immense power and “abuse” by American health care companies that inspired him to allegedly kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, Mangione admitted he does “not pretend to be the most qualified person to lay out the full argument.”

Capitol Police arrest man accused of ‘assaulting’ Rep. Nancy Mace

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) said she was “physically accosted” at the US Capitol building complex Tuesday by a transgender rights activist who was later arrested by Capitol Police.

“I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man,” the congresswoman wrote on X.

“One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine,” Mace added, suggesting she suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.

Mace, who has pushed to limit access to single-sex facilities inside the Capitol complex, indicated that the incident was sparked “over my fight to protect women.”

Capitol Police said James McIntyre, 33, was arrested inside the Rayburn House Office Building in connection with the incident.

McIntyre, who is from Illinois, is facing a charge for assaulting a government official.

“Just before 6:00 p.m., the Member of Congress’ office reported an incident in the Rayburn House Office Building,” Capitol Police said in a statement. “House Division officers, and agents with the Threat Assessment Section, tracked down the suspect.”

“After an investigative interview, officers arrested the suspect.”

Capitol Police noted that the Rayburn office building was open to the public at the time of the incident and that McIntyre “went through security screening prior to entering the Congressional buildings.”

Mace and her staff have been the subject of several vile threats in the wake of the congresswoman’s push to ban transgender women from using female facilities inside the Capitol.

The 47-year-old congresswoman introduced a transgender bathroom ban resolution last month in response to Rep.-elect Sarah McBride’s (D-Del.) election to the lower chamber.

McBride, 34, will become the first openly transgender member of Congress when she’s sworn-in next month.

“Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO,” Mace wrote on X after Tuesday’s incident.

“All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe,” she added in a separate post. “Your threats will not stop my fight for women!”

A spokesperson for Mace did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Capitol Police made more than a dozen arrests last week after transgender activists, including notorious military intelligence leaker Chelsea Manning, protested outside a women’s restroom inside the Capitol complex.

Those individuals were charged with crowding, obstructing, or incommoding.

‘Tolerant’ Left Sure Does Like Assassinations

A manifesto recovered from the alleged shooter of UnitedHeathCare CEO Brian Thompson says that “These parasites had it coming” and “I do apologize for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done.”

This is music to the ears of many on the left, who cheered when they learned that Thompson had been gunned down and are treating the shooter as some sort of folk hero.

“Social media users have sometimes outright gloated at the killing,” is how The Hill put it, describing it as an expression of “populist rage” and then spending the rest of the article trying to obliquely pin the blame on Donald Trump.

The Atlantic dismissed the “mockery and disdain” of the cold-blooded murder as an “expression of widespread fury at a broken system.”

Former Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz reposted an article about how Blue Cross Blue Shield will no longer cover anesthesia for the full length of some surgeries, adding, “And people wonder why we want these executives dead.”

“Saturday Night Live” joked that “it really says something about America that a guy was murdered in cold blood and the two main reactions were, ‘Yeah, well health care stinks!’ And also, ‘Girl, that shooter hot.’ “

If this reminds you of anything it should. Because the same cast of miscreants cheered the would-be assassin of Donald Trump as well.

In fact, the only problem they could find was that the shooter’s aim was off.

The left had effectively been calling for Trump’s assassination for years. Every time they described him as a “threat to democracy,” compared him to Hitler, and said that he had to be “stopped at all costs,” it was a call to action that at least two would-be assassins heard.

Is this sort of bloodlust confined to the left? Of course not. But if you follow the pundit class, you’d believe that it’s entirely contained on the conservative side of the spectrum.

The truth is that leftists are far more prone to want to murder their opponents because they’ve been infected by the Marxist-power-struggle virus, which leads them to think that the murder of a political opponent is always justifiable homicide.

In the case of health care, the left will never be satisfied until the government controls the entire system, soup to nuts, with Sen. Bernie Sanders making decisions about which patients live or die. If that means sacrificing a few health insurance CEOs on the road to this socialist Nirvana, so be it.

In the midst of this sickness, there were some voices expressing common sense.

One of them was Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, senior associate dean at the Yale School of Management. He wrote that:

I have studied CEO and business leadership for 40 years, and such dancing on the grave of a murdered business executive is one of the most abhorrent things I have ever seen. This vitriol and violence against business and business leaders is plainly un-American.‌

Indeed it is. And who hates America? Oh, right, those on the left.
