MacroGenics and Sagard Healthcare Partners Enter into ZYNYZ® Royalty Purchase Agreement

MacroGenics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MGNX), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing, manufacturing and commercializing innovative antibody-based therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, today announced that it has entered into a royalty purchase agreement with Sagard in exchange for a capped royalty interest on future global net sales of ZYNYZ (retifanlimab-dlwr). ZYNYZ is a PD-1 inhibitor originally developed by MacroGenics and licensed to Incyte pursuant to an exclusive global collaboration and license agreement in October 2017. MacroGenics retains its other economic interests related to ZYNYZ, including future potential development, regulatory and commercial milestones. MacroGenics will also continue to support a portion of global commercial manufacturing needs for ZYNYZ.

Under the terms of the royalty purchase agreement, MacroGenics received a $70 million upfront payment for the sale of its royalty rights on global net sales of ZYNYZ. Following Sagard’s receipt of aggregate royalty payments totaling $140 million (or 2.0x), MacroGenics will resume collecting all future royalties on global net sales.

Hegseth Says DOGE Found $6 Billion in Pentagon Budget Cuts

 Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Congress Tuesday that the Pentagon’s collaboration with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency found $6 billion in cuts so far from the agency’s budget of nearly $1 trillion.

He added that President Donald Trump’s proposed budget also shifts $30 billion from away from “nonlethal priorities” under the Biden administration, according to a copy of his opening statement posted online.

“Every cent will provide capabilities to deter our adversaries, and if necessary, prevail on the battlefield,” Hegseth was set to tell a House appropriations defense subcommittee.

In addition to seeking to streamline the Pentagon’s slow acquisition process, Hegseth has aggressively implemented Trump’s drive to eradicate “woke” policies, including banning transgender troops from serving, and deploying active duty soldiers for immigration enforcement.

Hegseth’s appearance also comes as the Trump administration deploys National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles in response to anti-deportation protests, testing the bounds of presidential authority.

Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom clashed again over the response to the protests, with the state suing the administration for mobilizing National Guard troops in the city. Trump, meanwhile, suggested that Newsom, a Democrat widely seen as a potential presidential contender in 2028, could be arrested if he interferes with the federal immigration raids or response to the unrest.

Hegseth also said in his statement that his budget requests include $62 billion for nuclear weapons and $3.5 billion for the next-generation F-47 fighter jet.

OpenAI taps Google in unprecedented cloud deal despite AI rivalry, sources say

 OpenAI plans to add Alphabet's Google cloud service to meet its growing needs for computing capacity, three sources told Reuters, marking a surprising collaboration between two prominent competitors in the artificial intelligence sector.

The deal, which has been under discussion for a few months, was finalized in May, one of the sources added. It underscores how massive computing demands to train and deploy AI models are reshaping the competitive dynamics in AI, and marks OpenAI's latest move to diversify its compute sources beyond its major supporter Microsoft, including its high-profile Stargate data center project.

It is a win for Google's cloud unit, which will supply additional computing capacity to OpenAI's existing infrastructure for training and running its AI models, sources said, who requested anonymity to discuss private matters. The move also comes as OpenAI's ChatGPT poses the biggest threat to Google's dominant search business in years, with Google executives recently saying that the AI race may not be winner-take-all.

OpenAI, Google and Microsoft declined to comment. Alphabet's stock was up 2.1% on Tuesday afternoon following the news, while Microsoft shares were down 0.6%.

Scotiabank analysts called the development "somewhat surprising" in a note on Tuesday, highlighting the growth opportunities for Google's Cloud unit, while expressing caution regarding competition from ChatGPT.

"The deal ... underscores the fact that the two are willing to overlook heavy competition between them to meet the massive computing demands. Ultimately, we view this as a big win for Google’s cloud unit, but ... there are continued worries that ChatGPT is becoming an incrementally larger threat to Google’s search dominance," the analysts wrote.

Since ChatGPT burst onto the scene in late 2022, OpenAI has dealt with increasing demand for computing capacity - known in the industry as compute - for training large language models, as well as for running inference, which involves processing information so people can use these models. OpenAI said on Monday that its annualized revenue run rate surged to $10 billion as of June, positioning the company to hit its full-year target amid booming adoption of AI.

Earlier this year, OpenAI partnered with SoftBank and Oracle on the $500 billion Stargate infrastructure program, and signed deals worth billions with CoreWeave for more compute. It is on track this year to finalize the design of its first in-house chip that could reduce its dependency on external hardware providers, Reuters reported in February.

OpenAI confirmed the outage on its status page, stating that both ChatGPT and Sora were affected, and said it was still investigating the issue without providing a timeline for a fix. Users were advised to check the company's status page for real-time updates on ChatGPT's operational status.

"Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services. We are continuing to investigate this issue," OpenAI said. 

The outage sparked a wave of frustration and memes on social media, with users also highlighting their increasing dependence on AI tools.
