California Governor Gavin Newsom (pictured) said on Wednesday that authorities are closely monitoring potential security threats linked to the conflict in the Middle East, but stressed there are currently no immediate dangers to California.
"I am in constant coordination with security and intelligence officials, including at California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, to monitor potential threats to California — including those tied to the conflict in the Middle East," Newsom wrote on X. He added officials are "not aware of any imminent threats at this time" but remain "prepared for any emergency."
The remarks follow reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation warned Iran could seek to retaliate against the United States by launching drone attacks against unspecified targets in California.
