Thune to bring SAVE Act to vote next week

 Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune (pictured) announced on Thursday that he will bring the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act to the floor for a vote next week.

"Senate Democrats will be forced to defend their outrageous positions ... and explain to the American people why common sense and the Democrat Party have parted ways," Thune said. He called the proof-of-citizenship requirement "the kind of common sense policy that should get an automatic yes vote from literally every member of this body."

The proposed law would require "documentary proof of United States citizenship", such as a passport or a real ID, to register to vote.
