Anthropic PBC is discussing forming an artificial intelligence (AI)-focused consortium of private equity companies, including Blacstone Inc. and Hellman & Friedman LLC (H&F), among others, to sell the startup's tools to businesses backed by investment firms, The Information reported.
Citing two people familiar with the matter, Anthropic's recent feud with the United States Department of Defense (DoD) put a brief pause on the plans. However, they have continued, a source said, and it could result in a deal.
US President Donald Trump ordered all federal and government agencies to stop using Anthropic's tools after the $380-billion valued company refused to allow the Pentagon to use them without limitations, including for heavy weaponry design and surveillance.
