White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed on Thursday that the administration of United States President Donald Trump is considering temporarily waiving the Jones Act in order to address the increase in fuel prices amid the Iran conflict.
"In the interest of national defense, the White House is considering waiving the Jones Act for a limited period of time to ensure vital energy products and agricultural necessities are flowing freely to US ports," Leavitt told Fox News, following previous reports, but added that the action has not been finalized yet.
A federal law known as the Jones Act requires all cargo to be transported by water between US ports on ships that are constructed, owned, and manned in the United States.
