US Central Command announced an agreement with the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday to launch the first joint military artificial intelligence task force, named Task Force Talon Synapse.
The Abu Dhabi-based team will include about 20 American and Emirati experts in AI, data, and cybersecurity. The group plans to formally launch in the coming weeks.
"This will be a historic milestone as we work with one of our most capable regional partners to rapidly deliver evolving AI advancements to our warfighters," said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.
The team will focus on using AI for intelligence support, protecting key infrastructure, and monitoring regional security. Cooper and UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan first discussed the initiative last year before CENTCOM met with UAE defense officials and industry leaders in June.
