Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov (pictured) said on Friday that Russian forces would suspend hostilities in the Kherson direction and introduce a "silence regime" from 4 am Moscow time on October 27 to facilitate a humanitarian operation in Oleshky.
The Russian Defense Ministry said engineering reconnaissance would be deployed to ensure civilian safety and the delivery of essential supplies.
The announcement follows a White House statement that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a localized ceasefire in Oleshky to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations, with US First Lady Melania Trump coordinating the mission.
