Yields on United States government bonds dropped on Thursday as lower crude oil prices appeared to have eased inflation concerns and supported bond demand, while a sell-off in technology stocks further fueled investors' flight to safety.
The US Treasury also announced a preliminary liquidity-support buyback of up to $6 billion in nominal coupon securities with maturities of 10 to 20 years, scheduled for 2 pm ET later today.
The yield on the 30-year bond plunged 12.8 basis points to 5.396%. The return on the 10-year Treasury note tumbled 14.2 basis points to 5.042%. The yield on the 2-year bond slipped 9.8 basis points to 4.707%.
