'Epstein Threatened Mossad for £400 Million'

Following the release of more than three million new documents as part of the US Justice Department’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, a series of new and striking allegations have emerged. According to the files, Robert Maxwell, the father of Epstein’s former partner and convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, allegedly threatened to expose Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad.

“£400 Million or Everything Will Be Revealed”

According to an allegation contained in the documents and based on an email dated 15 March 2018, Jeffrey Epstein wrote that Robert Maxwell demanded £400 million from Mossad in an effort to “save his collapsing empire”, threatening to reveal everything he had done for the Israeli intelligence service if the money was not provided.

The same email states that Maxwell had unrestricted access to:

  • then UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher
  • US President Ronald Reagan
  • the Kremlin
  • major centres of power across Europe

It further claims that Maxwell portrayed himself as Israel’s “unofficial ambassador” to the Soviet bloc.

Allegations of a Blackmail Network Involving Epstein and Maxwell

Other documents include allegations that Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell were involved in blackmail operations targeting political and financial leaders.

In an email chain dated 2021, presented as witness testimony, it is claimed that suspicions regarding Epstein and the Maxwell family’s links to Mossad had circulated for years. The documents also allege the existence of a second Epstein “black book” containing names and organisational structures that could shed further light on the investigation.

Robert Maxwell’s Death and Lingering Questions

Robert Maxwell, whose media influence had waned by the early 1990s and who was burdened with millions of pounds in debt, died on 5 November 1991 after falling from his yacht, Lady Ghislaine, off the Canary Islands.

Although his death was officially recorded as accidental drowning, the incident fuelled long-standing speculation involving:

  • suicide
  • other possible causes

These questions have remained a subject of debate for decades.

Robinhood stock sinks

Robinhood shares plummeted by more than 10% on Monday as cryptocurrency-linked companies were hit by a decline in bitcoin prices.

The slide came amid growing concerns that reduced crypto trading volumes could dampen revenue growth for firms heavily exposed to digital assets.

Robinhood shares sank 10.16% to $89.34 at 2:51 pm ET.

Israel said to urge end to Iran's nuclear program via US

Israel will ask the United States to pressure Iran to end its nuclear program, as well as to abandon ballistic missile production and halt support for its proxies that pose a threat to the country, Channel 12 reported on Monday.

The outlet also reported that Israel will not oppose the prospect of conducting airstrikes on Iran if necessary.

The report came ahead of the planned meeting between US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Istanbul. Before that, Witkoff will visit Israel and meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

IDF said to assess Hamas rebuilding in Gaza

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) submitted an assessment to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlining how Hamas is rebuilding its strength and consolidating control in the Gaza Strip following the ceasefire in October, Channel 13 reported on Monday.

According to the report, the three-page document by the IDF said that "approximately three months after the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, it is evident that Hamas, despite the difficulties, continues to deepen its governance," adding that "an increase can be identified across all indicators of Hamas's governance." The document said the group is integrating operatives into "government ministries and the security mechanisms" to preserve its influence.

The assessment came after Hamas had said it was ready to formally transfer Gaza's administration to a US-backed technocratic committee. US President Donald Trump has urged the group to disarm "like they promised," amid Israeli skepticism that Hamas would relinquish real control without military pressure.

Schools Closed For 8th Day Across Multiple States As Cold Weather Persists

by Zachary Stieber via The Epoch Times,

Superintendents are keeping schools closed to students across multiple states on Feb. 2 as cold weather persists, leaving some roads and sidewalks difficult to navigate.

Officials in Montgomery County, Maryland; Fairfax County, Virginia; and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, North Carolina were among those announcing canceled classes on Monday for the eighth day in the wake of a storm that dumped snow and ice along the East Coast.

“Snow and ice removal from this winter weather event has been slow, where Monday will be the first day above freezing in 9 days,” Montgomery County Public Schools said on the district’s website.

“We know we will not have perfect conditions any time soon, but many streets and sidewalks are NOT passable for buses or safe for student walkers,” officials added later.

They said they want to resume classes on Tuesday, but doing so would be partially contingent on people clearing sidewalks around them.

Fairfax County Public Schools said on its website that classes were canceled because of “continued concerns about safe travel for students and staff to and from school.” The district did not commit to opening on Tuesday.

At least some employees in both counties are expected to report to work on Feb. 2, officials said.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools said on its website that schools were closed Monday “due to unsafe road conditions.”

Those three districts were among those not holding remote classes or instruction over the Internet.

Other districts, such as Randolph County Schools in North Carolina, were having a remote learning day rather than holding classes as normal in person.

Still others, including schools in Baltimore County in Maryland and the District of Columbia, opened for in-person instruction, but two hours later than usual.

A number of states are dealing with snow and ice brought by a January storm. Some areas reported multiple feet of snow. Many recorded at least eight inches.

Since then, freezing temperatures have persisted, keeping the snow and ice in place unless it is removed by hand or machine.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for portions of Michigan and North Carolina on Monday due to freezing temperatures and additional accumulations of ice.

Forecasters also warned residents across Florida that temperatures as low as 30 degrees, with cold wind chills, were expected late Monday into early Tuesday.

The cold temperatures atypically affected the Southeast, including Alabama and Florida.

More snow is projected to fall in Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey, among other states, in the coming days, although the total would likely be no more than 1 inch in most areas and a maximum of 5 inches, the weather service said.

Arbutus Btiopharma (ABUS) Patent Dispute Over COVID-19 Vaccine Development

In a legal battle concerning patent rights over vaccine development, Arbutus Biopharma (ABUS) and Genevant Sciences GmbH have accused Moderna Inc. of infringing on their patents during the U.S. Government's Operation Warp Speed. The companies claim Moderna used their patented technology in the rush to create a COVID-19 vaccine, allegedly breaching patent law. Moderna contends that since their development was government-directed, the claims should be addressed by the Court of Federal Claims. Additionally, Moderna challenges the validity of Arbutus's patents and their ability to pursue claims under the doctrine of equivalents.

The judge determined that most issues fall under the current court's jurisdiction and ruled that a jury must evaluate the validity of some patent claims. However, it was noted that Arbutus's doctrine-of-equivalents claims, specifically relating to molar ratios, are barred. For Arbutus to prevail, they must demonstrate literal infringement. This ongoing litigation underscores the complexities of patent laws in high-speed medical advancements.
