Belarus, N. Korea sign 'fundamental' treaty

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un signed a friendship and cooperation treaty in Pyongyang following official talks, BelTA reported.

Lukashenko said the document "clearly and openly sets forth the goals and principles" of bilateral ties, calling it "fundamental," while Kim stated the treaty will "serve as a legal foundation" to ensure stable relations. The agreement formalizes cooperation and establishes a framework for expanding political and economic engagement.

Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko noted that bilateral trade is gradually expanding, including Belarusian exports of food, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural goods, while BelAZ vehicles are already in use in the country. The signing came during Lukashenko's first visit to North Korea.
