'Iran may carpet bomb its territory if US invades'

 Iran warned the United States that it is prepared to carpet bomb its own territory in case Washington attempts to land any troops there, the Guardian reported on Wednesday, citing diplomats from a third country who passed on the threat.

Tehran signaled it is willing to bomb even the infrastructure at the all-important Kharg Island, predicting that any invasion attempt would end in a bloodbath for US forces.

Washington has been building up its military presence with thousands of Marines arriving in the area from Japan and California in the last couple of days.
