United States Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing Peter Navarro said on Wednesday that President Donald Trump still plans to raise global tariffs to 15%.
Navarro said the administration intends to increase the current 10% duty introduced under Section 122, adding that "it has happened, at least it's in process to happen." He suggested trade agreements with partners such as the United Kingdom and European Union could be adjusted as tariffs are reinstated following a US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) ruling that struck down some earlier measures.
Last month, Trump shared on Truth Social his decision to increase the tariff "to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level." Navarro also criticized Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, calling him the "worst Fed chairman in history" and saying he "fundamentally misreads Trumponomics," as tensions persist between the administration and the central bank.
