I've been writing about the Texas Senate candidacy of James Talarico—“Talifreako” as President Trump has dubbed him--for months, and most recently in James Talarico: the Anti-Christian Christian seminarian on September 26.
Since then, Talarico’s bizarre, anti-American, anti-Christian beliefs haven’t changed, and his backpedaling hasn’t either, though a recent campaign commercial in which he claims Ken Paxton is lying about him is a slight change of tactics. As the old political saying goes, if you’re defending or explaining, you’re losing. That applies here, because Paxton has consistently used the underhanded tactic of using Talarico’s own words and votes against him, the scoundrel.
But the latest Talarico news is potentially campaign-ending. For going on two weeks, Talarico has disappeared. His campaign has canceled numerous major appearances, and its calendar shows no new scheduled events. His spokesmen have been silent.
Sara Gonzales of The Blaze reported Thursday that she had received a tip she was still working to confirm.
Gonzales didn't say what the information was, but GOP strategist Caroline Wren did, and what she's hearing, though unconfirmed, is huge.
"James Talarico is straight up missing one month before the election," Wren told Steve Bannon on Real America's Voice.
In political campaigns, daily public exposure is essential, especially in the final weeks and in tight races. That’s why Talarico’s disappearance and his campaign’s silence are so ominous.
To recap, Talarico was last seen in Texas at a football game on Sept. 26. Invitations show New York City fundraisers with Robert De Niro on Sept. 28 and Sept. 29. Then, on Sept. 30, Talarico appeared by video at a Hispanic business event he was supposed to have attended in person, and said he had come down with the flu and visited a Dallas clinic. Wren concludes that account would put him in a Dallas medical clinic on the same night he was supposed to have been at a fundraiser in Manhattan.
Nobody has seen him in public since.

"I'm [Wren is] hearing that he checked himself into a mental institution, that he had a full-blown mental breakdown sometime around, I guess, September 29th or September 30th," she said.
Now, to be clear, nobody has verified this. Wren said so herself, and she deserves credit for not dressing up a tip as a confirmed fact. "So, I heard this from someone in Texas," she said. "I have no idea what the truth is." She called on investigative reporters to chase it down, and that's the right call. A claim like this about any candidate, Republican or Democrat, needs proof before anyone treats it as settled.
But the rumor has legs because the Talarico campaign is acting like it’s hiding something, and its public explanations don’t make sense. The official story is the flu. Twelve days of it.
Talarico is 37 and apparently in good health. Normal, healthy adults usually recover from the flu within a few days. Absent a more serious disease, that explanation doesn’t hold water, and the campaign's silence might turn out to be a tacit confirmation.
Again, we here at American Thinker also stress that this is an unconfirmed rumor. We have no way of confirming or falsifying it. But since it’s out there, we can be reasonably certain the pressure on Talarico and his campaign to deny it will be overwhelming. Thus far, they haven’t. There's likely plenty of panicky containment strategizing going on in Texas and at the DNC.
Equally great will be the pressure for Talarico to do an in-person appearance where he appears coherent and steady. That hasn’t happened either. If it does happen and comes with an equally coherent explanation for his absence, that still won't help his chances. If it’s confirmed, Democrat hopes of taking the Senate may be doomed, Talarico is likely toast, and all the dollars Democrats put into their hyperbolic claims about turning Texas blue go up in Texas barbecue smoke.
More as it develops.
