ISIS said to attack Iraqi security checkpoint

Elements linked to the Islamic State terror group launched an attack on a security checkpoint in the Kirkuk Province in northern Iraq, according to Iran's Fars News, citing Iraqi sources.

As per unconfirmed reports, ISIS militants involved in the attack were killed by Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) militia and Iraqi police. No additional information about the incident was available, and the Iraqi authorities had not yet issued a comment.

Government forces have been attempting to root out the remnants of ISIS in the Kirkuk Province since earlier this year, managing to destroy one of its hideouts in August.
