French Interior Ministry estimated on Saturday that 410,000 people took part in nationwide protests.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said that 70,000 police officers were deployed across the country. Demonstrations were planned and authorized in Paris and Marseille, but more unauthorized gatherings took place in other cities, including Lyon, Nice, Nantes, Bordeaux and Montpellier.
In addition to France, protests over rising living costs took place in Italy, while some 25,000 people demonstrated today in Spain’s capital, Madrid, to demand that the public pension system be protected.
