Leader of the left-wing La France Insoumise party and candidate for the 2027 French presidential election, Jean-Luc Melenchon, joined the Paris march on Saturday and called on French President Emmanuel Macron to "give in."
The leftist leader said protests across the country will continue every week until Macron and his government address people's demands, stressing that the French head of state still has time to concede to students' wishes.
The day before, Macron met with student union representatives for the first time since protests started and promised to reform France's much-criticized university admissions system, Parcoursup. However, student groups called for "continued mobilization" despite that promise.
