New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani accused Google of using its monopoly power to force artificial intelligence into public schools on Tuesday after the company announced it would turn off access to Search for schools that have opted to restrict the use of AI altogether.
"No corporation should have the power to dictate how we teach our children. Our public schools exist to serve students, not to grow the profit margins of Big Tech," Mamdani wrote on X.
Meanwhile, Google announced earlier today that it would bring Guided Learning capabilities to Search, helping students work through problems step by step rather than simply providing them with answers. The feature is now also available in Google Classroom, where it serves as a one-on-one study tool.
