'Ukraine: Russian strikes threaten Europe's nuclear safety'

Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal warned on Tuesday that the massive strikes Russia launched on his country earlier today pose a danger to the "nuclear safety of all of Europe." Shmyhal said Kyiv informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of a Russian drone strike on the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant substation, calling it a "serious escalation."

"The enemy directed three drones at a substation that is critical for the stable operation of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant," Shmyhal announced on Telegram, adding that Ukraine held a meeting with ambassadors of G7 countries and the European Union to brief them about the massive aerial attack on the country's energy grid that took place overnight.

"We expect an appropriate response from our international partners regarding this further escalation of Russian attacks on infrastructure essential for the stable operation of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants," he concluded.
