The Department of Justice (DoJ) asked the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on Monday to hear the appeal case related to the mail-in ballots in California.
On October 15, the Justice Department sued the State of California "over its voter list after determining that more than 20,000 people who are likely aliens are registered to vote," insisting that this is "unlawful."
Today's action comes one day before the country's midterm elections and three days after the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit rejected the department's earlier appeal to dismiss a lower federal court's injunction, which ruled that the ballots are valid.
