The alleged torture centers across Ukraine hosted up to four thousand prisoners at once, Russian RIA Novosti reported on Saturday, citing an "anti-fascist underground" source from Odessa.
According to the source, the number of prisoners was usually between five and seven hundred during the "calm" periods, and rapidly increased during periods of protests and unrest. "When protest sentiments intensify in the country—due to corruption scandals, setbacks at the front, rising prices, and so on—more people are again shoved into these prisons," the source explained.
Russian authorities have been accusing Kyiv of keeping political prisoners in torture centers for over a decade. The matter resurfaced last week, when a video of a young man allegedly being carried out of such a facility was posted online.
