US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday that it established a new task force to prevent Iran from moving advanced weapons, dual-use technologies, and other sanctioned materials across its land borders and the Caspian Sea.
According to an X post, Admiral Brad Cooper ordered the creation of Task Force Iron Gate, a unit comprising approximately 20 civilian and military personnel based in Tampa, Florida, to coordinate with other US government agencies to disrupt weapons transfers and the movement of illicit revenue.
Cooper said the initiative would reinforce Washington's naval blockade of Iran, which CENTCOM claims has prevented the country from exporting more than $25 billion in crude oil in recent months. He added that the measures aim to limit Tehran's "ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish their military."
