Frankfurt police have told Iranian exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi and his wife Yasmine that they cannot attend or address a rally because of threats of violence from the Islamic Republic, she said in a statement.
Yasmine Pahlavi said her husband would be in Frankfurt on Saturday to accept the Freedom Prize on behalf of the Iranian people, but police had informed the couple they would prevent them from attending the rally.
“The police have told us that if my husband attends, the Islamic Republic may retaliate by targeting innocent people in the crowd,” she said.
Frankfurt police did not immediately respond to Iran International’s request for comment.
Pahlavi said protecting rally participants was essential and expressed respect for law enforcement officers, but questioned whether the restriction reflected political considerations alongside security concerns.
“A foreign regime threatens violence against innocent civilians, and the response is to silence the very people it wants to intimidate,” she said.
