Quest Diagnostics paid about $13 million to the Justice Department to settle allegations that it offered healthcare providers and executives illegal kickbacks.
The kickbacks, allegedly paid for by federal healthcare programs, were meant to generate business referrals to Quest, according to the lawsuit.
The clinical laboratory company allegedly provided free entertainment events for executives between July 2013 and August 2022, offering items or services such as free tickets for suite seats at New York Giants games.
The lawsuit alleged that the company then submitted false claims for lab services that Medicare and New York and New Jersey Medicaid paid for.
Along with the settlement, Quest has entered into a five-year federal Corporate Integrity Agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Department.
"Although we deny any allegations of wrongdoing or violation of the law, over a year ago, in 2025, we agreed to a settlement with the government to put the matter behind us," the company said.
