US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he directed the Department of Justice (DoJ) to investigate what he described as threats and intimidation by Democratic lawmakers against Republican officials, donors, and supporters.
In a Truth Social post, the Republican president accused Democrats of threatening with "Impeachment and many other forms of punishment" against Attorney General Pam Bondi and other officials, as well as potential imprisonment for Republican donors. He characterized the alleged actions as "extortion," "weaponization," and "lawfare."
Trump also accused Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin of targeting young people who support "Republican values." He said "Threatening letters" had been sent to several individuals and ordered the Justice Department to examine the matter "immediately."
