A COVID hero speaks

 by James Anthony

As COVID first spread, I saw the initial work of researchers and was awed that we had such skilled people and deep resources already in place and ready to limit losses from a fast-emerging new threat of death.

My wife and I watched the MedCram video series on COVID and learned early about many things such as strengthening the immune system using Vitamin D, augmenting the body’s defenses using hydroxychloroquine plus zinc or using ivermectin plus zinc, limiting oxidative damage to the walls of the circulatory system by taking NAC, and improving lung ventilation by using face-down prone positioning and steroids.

I anticipated that government people would try to grab power by denigrating off-label treatments.  Even so, in my chemical engineering work, I had helped build pharma facilities, including pilot facilities to support clinical trials, so I visualized pharma’s talent as being knowledgeable in their field.  And in my economics studies, I had learned about the extensive damage FDA people had done when they had been slow to approve life-saving medications.

But I learned much in quick succession.  Research capability didn’t yield clinical knowledge and protocols.  MedCram academic understanding turned out to be strongly biased to favor randomized controlled trials over emerging clinical knowledge and strongly biased to favor treatments labeled vaccines despite inadequate testing and pharmacovigilance.  And on COVID, not only government people, but also pharma people, hospitalists, most clinical practitioners, all pharmacy chain managers, and most pharmacists were potently harmful — and it turned out, in many other areas, too

Mary Talley Bowden is a Stanford-trained ear, nose, and throat specialist who, after raising four children in their earliest years, had just returned to practice by starting up a direct-pay business, so she started out with helpful practitioner knowledge.  But she had to follow her own rapid learning curve.

Dangerous Misinformation is deceptively simple.  The book presents as a straightforward narrative.  But Bowden has ended up taking action in a broad variety of areas, with seemingly effortless competence.  Readers should at times step back from the concise background briefings and close combat actions and instead get enthralled with the meta-story.

Starting in residency, for chronic sinusitis Bowden prescribed the antibiotic trovafloxacin, which later was withdrawn from the market for causing serious liver injuries.  For tightness in the throat, Bowden prescribed proton-pump inhibitors on an ongoing basis, and it has emerged that these PPIs are having long-term adverse effects.  When Bowden started her own practice in 2019, she re-evaluated and changed these practices.

Early in the COVID pandemic, Bowden started offering patients rapid PCR tests and posting weekly percents positive.  At first she didn’t work on treatments, and then she just offered breathing treatments in patients’ cars.  She next offered hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, but then hydroxychloroquine prescribing was limited.  She next offered monoclonal antibodies, but then supply was throttled, and after that, emergency use authorization was revoked.  She next used ivermectin, and all hell broke loose.

Hospitals imprisoned patients, severely limited treatments that clinicians were proving were effective, and imposed harmful treatments.  Social media were government-funded to attack life-saving independent clinicians like Bowden.  Bowden went on offense.

Initially, Bowden, like many of our best clinicians, was canceled on social media and reported to her medical board.

COVID vaccine injuries soon started appearing, and Bowden started treating injured patients, too.

A first break in the onslaught against Bowden and her colleagues came when Elon Musk bought Twitter and soon restored her account and, at her request, the accounts of twelve others like her.  She sued the FDA over its tweet denigrating everybody who had applied ivermectin to treat COVID, and she won.  She championed politicians who supported health freedom.  She opposed MAHA when its people transformed to focusing on foods, toxic chemicals, and over-medicalization of children and went radio silent about mRNA poisons.  And she has taken on the entrenched massive Houston hospitals, the Texas Medical Board, and the nominally non-government, highly impactful Federation of State Medical Boards.

Bowden uses compact space to deliver copious factual information about medical issues and political issues that together show remarkable command of sophisticated knowledge of both physiology and political and social interactions.  She’s a quick study.  Readers won’t help but be impressed by her depth of knowledge in multiple areas, and her tenacity, networking, and effectiveness.

What impresses me most is Bowden’s judgment and emotional intelligence in recognizing the core tyrants in today’s modern world of sophisticated science, riddled with ancient crony relationships, and taking the fight straight to these powers.

Using powers against government people and cronies to limit them is the key to freedom.

Dangerous Misinformation shows readers what it looks like today when a person from a sector that locks up terrific skills is instead confronted with the tyrannical modern administrative state — in all of its spread out into nominally non-government organizations like the Federation of State Medical Boards, and into crony companies like those in pharma — and is thrust into life-and-death struggles on behalf of patients and families, and the person fights back resolutely and intelligently on multiple fronts, incredibly effectively throughout.  Bowden speaks softly, and supposedly controversially.  But the natural introvert Bowden is a heroine in action.
