The US Justice Department (DoJ) filed a judicial misconduct complaint on Wednesday against seven Minnesota federal judges who spoke with The New York Times (NYT) about the state's immigration enforcement surge, accusing them of unethical and partisan conduct.
The DoJ asked the 8th US Circuit Court of Appeals to require the judges to recuse themselves from cases involving the Department of Homeland Security. Attorney General Todd Blanche said their public comments about pending cases violated their ethical duties and raised questions about their impartiality, according to the complaint.
In September, the judges told the NYT that the Trump administration had shown a "disregard for court orders" and that its actions threatened the rule of law.
