Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed on Wednesday that today's incident aboard a Flydubai plane flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv was a "jihadist terror attack attempt."
"According to the initial information in our possession, the terrorist had one intention: to crash the plane with all its passengers," Katz stated, adding that the attempt was "thwarted only thanks to the bravery of several Israeli passengers who broke into the cockpit, overpowered the terrorist and, with their own hands, restored control of the plane to another flight crew who was present there."
The Flydubai aircraft diverted from its route and landed safely in Saudi Arabia, where the two pilots were taken to hospital after being injured during the flight. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted that one of the pilots planned to crash the plane, adding that he is now being interrogated by Saudi authorities.
