German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated on Thursday that Russia is backing the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD).
Delivering a speech in Munster, Merz insisted that Berlin will continue to stand behind Ukraine despite AfD's results in recent elections, underlining that anyone who wants peace in Europe cannot leave Kyiv to fend for itself.
He went on to add that Germany is preparing for a "possible large-scale hybrid attack" by Moscow, stressing that the country will give a "decisive and swift" response.
