Trump cut antifa’s global leftist lifeline — and struck a blow for democracy
Left-wing terrorism is a serious problem in the United States, though for political reasons it doesn’t receive anything like the attention right-wing violence gets.
For example, when most people think of violence connected to abortion, they imagine attacks on abortion clinics — yet lately pro-abortion extremists have been firebombing crisis pregnancy centers across the country.
These centers help women who want to have their babies or who are undecided about having an abortion: Women who are making a choice, just not the choice supposedly “pro-choice” abortion advocates find acceptable.
So a group calling itself “Jane’s Revenge,” named for the “Jane Roe” of Roe v. Wade, has declared war on anyone who might choose life.
The left-wing Guardian newspaper documented how “pro-choice militants” conducted terroristic attempts at intimidation from New York and North Carolina to Wisconsin, Texas and Washington state in recent years.
“The methods have been extreme,” the report noted; “vandals have thrown molotov cocktails, committed arson, damaged property and made threats.”
Jane’s Revenge issued a statement demanding “anti-choice establishments” shut down in 30 days or face further violence.
That was in 2022 — yet the group continued operating, until its website went dark just days ago thanks to President Donald Trump’s crackdown on terrorist infrastructure.
Jane’s Revenge and various other radical organizations, including “antifa” groups, were part of a network relying on web services provided by Italy’s “Autistici/Inventati,” or A/I Collective.
According to the State Department, the A/I Collective “builds and operates the digital infrastructure for violent antifa cells and other far-left militants across the world.”
It provides technology “designed to support the operations of far-left terrorist networks, built to enable them to organize, recruit, communicate, disseminate propaganda, share target information and tactics, and carry out violent attacks — all while remaining anonymous, untraceable and beyond the reach of the law.”
The collective has been facilitating leftist provocations for years.
But on Aug. 26 the State Department struck back, officially deeming the A/I Collective a “specially designated global terrorist.”
The designation means sanctions can be imposed on domestic individuals and financial institutions that do business with the foreign group, as well as restricting any of the collective’s assets that are under American jurisdiction.
Results were immediate: Radical sites shut down.
“Antifascism and anticapitalism are not terrorism,” the collective complained in a media statement. “Protesting is not terrorism.”
Yet all too often, it is: Groups like Jane’s Revenge consider terrorism a legitimate form of protest.
And antifa organizations specialize in using protests as cover for carrying out acts of mayhem.
Indeed, that’s their grand strategy — to tear down American society, which is capitalist and “fascist” in the left’s eyes, by exploiting the freedoms our “capitalist” Constitution protects.
Legend has it Lenin once said capitalists would sell communists the very rope they would use to hang them.
Today’s militant left is counting on capitalists and constitutionalists to provide them the legal protections they need to incite and perpetrate violence.
But the Trump administration refuses to play along.
The State Department’s action is long overdue: Americans should not have had to wait for a Republican administration like this one before government acts to dismantle the infrastructure that supports intimidation and violence.
Foreign interests like the A/I Collective are often suppliers of that infrastructure.
America’s domestic extremists are not simply isolated local loonies who spring up at random in our own communities — they’re connected to and coordinated with international networks.
The networks encourage cross-pollination and collaboration.
A/I Collective, the State Department notes, provides services to European “anarchist cells responsible for sabotaging rail systems across France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands” as well as to the domestic “anarchist cell” that waged a “violent campaign to prevent the construction of a law enforcement training center” in Atlanta, Ga.
The violent left is a transnational movement, and Trump is right to see it in the same light as other networks that support or engage in terrorism.
Domestic sites and groups using A/I Collective resources have published calls for “direct action” against US immigration laws — and the officers responsible for enforcing them.
That includes publishing pamphlets urging activists to shine laser pointers at Customs and Border Protection helicopters, intending to blind pilots and potentially make them crash.
Other sites “dox” ICE agents, providing personal information on immigration-enforcement officers to allow activists to harass them at home — or to firebomb their homes, if they take inspiration from groups like Jane’s Revenge.
This is not protest, and it’s not certainly not democratic: These are attempts by a radical fringe to do through intimidation and violence what they can’t do at the ballot box.
Going after the foreign enablers of far-left violence and threats is a first, commonsense step in defending the very principle of self-government.

Germany blames Russia for attempted airport drone attack
The German government said on Tuesday that it held Russia "responsible" for an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport on August 4.
"The federal government concludes that Russia is responsible for the hybrid attack in Leipzig," said Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt at a press conference in Berlin .
Leipzig airport attack: What has Germany said?
"The means used — such as the drone configuration, components, explosives and detonation systems — are known to us from other hybrid operations by Russia and its war against Ukraine," added Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.
He said the attack fit the pattern of a "long series of destabilization operations" against Europe.
Authorities discovered a drone fitted with explosives and a detonation mechanism on the evening of August 4 in the security area of Leipzig/Halle Airport between Ukrainian cargo aircraft and believe a second drone may have collided with a DHL aircraft nearby.
Last week, German media reported a third drone, also loaded with explosives, had also been discovered at the airport.
German federal prosecutors described the incident as a "serious attack on Germany's transport and logistics infrastructure."
"Taken together, police investigations, patterns of the crime and intelligence findings substantiate Russian responsibility for the attempted attack at Leipzig Airport," said Interior Minister Dobrindt on Tuesday.
"We do not view Leipzig as an isolated incident, but rather see it in the context of other hybrid actions," he continued. "We assume that Germany will be the target of further hybrid attacks by Russia."
How will Germany respond?
Dobrindt insisted that Germany is "not at war" but that it is "a daily target of hybrid warfare."
Therefore, he said, Germany would respond to the hybrid attack in Leipzig in a "proportionate and measured, yet resolute manner."
Foreign Minister Wadephul said Germany's response would be coordinated closely with European Union and NATO partners.
In addition to a strengthening of internal security, he also announced additional measures including the closure of the Russian consulate in the western city of Bonn from September 18 and the rescinding of a contract enabling the operation of the "Russian House," a Russian cultural center in Berlin.
"Our message to the Russian leadership is clear," said Wadephul. "We are sticking to our security course. The attack on Leipzig shows that this is necessary. We will not allow our social cohesion to be divided by Russian attacks. We remain ready to react along with our partners when the protection of our population demands it."
Finally, he said that Germany would continue to support Ukraine in its "defensive battle against Russian aggression."
How have NATO and the EU responded?
"NATO stands in full solidarity with Germany after the Russian hybrid attack in Leipzig on 14 August," said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, adding that the alliance would continue strengthening its ability to deter and defend its allies against threats.
"Russia's attempts to intimidate us, to undermine our unity and our willingness to support Ukraine are futile and will fail," he added.
"The German government has taken strong measures and the message is clear: hybrid attacks will not go without a clear response," said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
"We are united in our resolve to stand against Russian aggression," she continued. "We will deter anyone who seeks to undermine our freedom and security. Russia is seeking to sow distrust and fear among our societies. But it will fail. And we will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes."
The European Union's foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas said earlier on Tuesday that it was "clear" that Russia was involved in the drone incident, but declined to comment further until Germany had identified those it believes were responsible,
Kallas said Russia was becoming increasingly provocative, raising the question of what could be done to deter Moscow from escalating tensions any further.
'IRGC says it struck US Marine camp in Jordan with ballistic missiles'
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Tuesday that its aerospace forces launched a heavy ballistic missile attack on a US Marine camp in Jordan, saying the strike was retaliation for a US attack near Sirik in southern Iran.
In a statement carried by state media, the IRGC said Camp Titin, on the Gulf of Aqaba coast, was hit in what it described as the second wave of its retaliatory operation.
The Guards said a large number of US personnel were killed and that several facilities and attack helicopters were destroyed. There was no immediate US confirmation.
The IRGC said its retaliatory operation was continuing.

Putin calls possible UK military targets 'a secret'
Russian President Vladimir Putin refused to say openly whether his country could target the United Kingdom's military sites in the British Isles.
"It is a military secret," he told the press after the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
However, Putin insisted that any UK or United States military installations on Ukraine's territory are a legitimate target.

'Iran claims deadly strike on US forces in Jordan'
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Tuesday that its retaliatory strike targeting US bases in Jordan killed "a number of" American forces.
"A heavy assault was launched on the U.S. Marines camp base in Jordan, resulting in a large number of American forces being sent to hell and the destruction of several key facilities and enemy assault helicopters," IRGC said in the statement.
The attack is said to have come in response to the United States airstrike on a residential area in Hormozgan province during a wedding ceremony that killed two people and injured 50 others earlier today.
