Two major Iranian petrochemical companies halted production until further notice because of electricity shortages in the Mahshahr region of Khuzestan province, Iranian media reported Wednesday.
Arvand Petrochemical said in a statement that all production had been taken offline because a heatwave had intensified power shortages in Mahshahr.
Ghadir Petrochemical also suspended production, citing electricity restrictions as well as a halt in its supply of chlorine feedstock, according to a statement.
The companies said production would resume once the supply problems were resolved.
