Delta Air Lines Inc. announced on Monday that it had decided to postpone the launch of its nonstop service between Atlanta and Riyadh until March 2027, after deadly Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia's capital city and an unstable situation in the region.
Delta originally planned to launch the new route on October 23, using an Airbus A350-900 aircraft. "The safety and security of our customers and employees always come first and continue to guide our operational decisions," the airline said in a press release, adding that it will stay in close contact with "relevant government and aviation partners."
Earlier today, the Federal Aviation Administration warned US carriers of safety risks flying in or around Saudi Arabia after Iran-backed Houthis attacked King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, killing at least 12 people.
